Chapter Six
APRIL
For the third time this morning since she’d woken, April double-checked the camera. Everything was in working order. She’d cleaned up the bathroom and made the bed, fussing over the smallest of details, as if the man coming to screw her would give a damn over how perfectly she’d made the bed or how clean the bathroom was.
She was beyond nervous. Her stomach wouldn’t settle and her wolf continued clawing at her, as if she wanted to escape. April understood how she felt. She wanted to escape this room before Henley arrived.
Her focus shot, April’s eyes wandered over the clean but drab room one more time. She didn’t want to give Henley an excuse to suggest they go to another hotel, not that he’d be too inclined. He had insisted on a remote location to avoid being seen with her. The man was married after all, and he had investors to consider. Portraying that squeaky-clean image was everything to him, which was part of what made him such a prime mark.
She couldn’t believe she was about to do this. The only man she’d been with was Nathan, and that was going to change very soon. She shuddered from the idea of another man touching her. The moment she’d spotted Henley in the bar, she’d noticed that the man was in good shape and had a handsome face, but he wasn’t Nathan.
Until last night, her poor Nathan had been in the dark. She couldn’t imagine the shock he must have had when he’d found the camera. When he couldn’t talk her out of sleeping with Henley, he’d become angry, which wasn’t like Nathan. He rarely got mad, at least not at her. He had scared the hell out of her by throwing her on the bed, showing a side of him she didn’t know existed, only to discover he was the shifter she knew him to be. He’d never take her against her will, no matter how crazed he was. His instinct would always be to protect her.
Maybe she should tell Nathan that Jacob had threatened her sisters. Jacob said he’d use May in an op like this one, forcing her to sleep with a mark. He hadn’t mentioned what the guard would do to her, but that was understood; being allowed to use May would be his reward for going on the mission. Jacob hadn’t stopped there either. He’d threatened to do the same with June or simply to give her to one of the guards, permanently, through a forced blood-bond. As if allowing these shifters to rape her sisters wouldn’t be bad enough, one or both could find themselves forced into and forever trapped by a blood-bond.
If she opened up to Nathan, told him why she had to do this, she knew he’d understand. What’s more, her Nathan would still want her, even after she slept with Henley. Her Nathan understood this wasn’t her choice, but she could never be with him again afterward. She wouldn’t be able
